After our experience in various projects with its technology, we become part of the Sigfox network of partners
We have recently entered the Sigfox network of partners in which we are working with equipment manufacturers, distributors and network operators. All this, to give way to projects around the world thanks to its technology. In the following paragraphs we talk about what it is and when it is advisable to use this network service.

What is Sigfox?
Sigfox is a data service that revolutionizes the world of M2M (machine-to-machine) communications designed for the Internet of Things (IoT) and dedicated for low-speed communications and low data transmission.
When to use Sigfox?
If in a project we have to monitor a device, it is normal to use SIM cards, but if the need is to monitor little information (data from a temperature sensor, a meter) and infrequently (1h, 8h, 16h, 24h ) or only when it occurs in the event as an open door, the limit is 140 daily messages. In these cases, using Sigfox is cheaper, paying an annual fee lower than that of SIM cards.
In addition, many manufacturers already develop devices with Sigfox communication, which means having a wide variety of sensors and counters for any utility. On the other hand, they are designed with batteries to avoid relying on a power grid, which allows them to be installed anywhere.
Network coverage
In the case of Spain, the Sigfox network is managed by Cellnex, the same company that manages the infrastructure of GSM / 3G / 4G networks. However, this coverage is widespread as in France, Germany, Denmark, Ireland, United Kingdom, Belgium and the Czech Republic:

Besides, work is being done to expand the network in many parts of the planet:

Energy efficiency projects
- Aigües del Prat: water management company, where devices with Sigfox communication are used to monitor valve openings and, on the other hand, measure the flow at certain points of the distribution network.
- Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in different temperature and humidity sensors we used this technology. All this, with a view to improving the comfort and energy efficiency of the different rooms, crossing data with the boiler setpoint temperatures.

Alternatives to Sigfox
We find similar technologies to this in companies such as LoraWan and Narrowband IoT, which we will talk about in future posts.
